The mission to feed the hungry in Burns Flat, otherwise known as Chewy Tuesdays will be continued until school starts. That means that two more hot and healthy meals will be provided for local folks.
This ministry began with the intent of feeding hungry children who did not eat as well during the summer because they did not receive school lunches, but it always included the provision that no hungry person would be turned away.
It has turned out to be a mission to both young and old with many of all ages being fed. This is a mission of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Burns Flat but it has involved many volunteers and contributors from western Oklahoma.
Last week the First Presbyterian Church in Elk City purchased, prepared, served, and cleaned up after the meal for 62 people. Donations from businesses and the Presbyterian Church in Cordell have augmented the seed money provided by the host church and private donations from the church people.
The good news is that there are two more good meals on the near horizons. See you Tuesday at noon.
What else is happening this week?
There’s the Back to School Splash.
There’s a very special ministry underway to acquire backpacks and school supplies for those who can’t afford them.
