September is National Pet Memorial Month. A reminder that pets are an integral part of our family and that grieving associated with pet loss, is real. Our pets are helpless and depend on us for their every need. We provide them with food, water and of course love. In return for the care of our pets they provide us with entertainment, love and understanding.
I recently met with the owner of Rolling Acres Pet Memorial Gardens, Nancy Piper. Upon driving into Rolling Acres I was surprised at how utterly beautifully the cemetery is landscaped. Rolling Acres boast a waterfall feature, gazebo, water fountain, pond and rolling hills. The views are absolutely breathtaking and immediately instill a sense of comfort and ease.
At the main office I was greeted by several of Nancy’s personal pets which felt so warm and reassuring. There is nothing like a wagging tail to make you feel truly welcome. Nancy followed her pet’s grand entrance and I was instantly drawn to how warm and genuine she was.
As I began to interview Nancy about Rolling Acres her passion and true empathy for individual’s pet loss shone through. Clearly this is not just a business for Nancy but rather a true calling. Nancy’s own pets are buried within Rolling Acres and it all began with a cat called, Adam Blu.
Truly, I was not expecting to be this impressed with Rolling Acres but I am. I can’t imagine a more tranquil or serenity fulfilled place to bury a loved one. Rolling Acres even offers pre-arrangements plans and payment plans so you can make clear, thought out decisions regarding your best friend prior to their death.
You have options in how you honor the life of your deceased pet and ultimately I would want you to do what’s right for you and your pocket book. Regardless of what decision you make I want to leave with you knowing that the feelings of loss, grief and sadness after losing a pet are normal and healthy. Allow yourself to time to work through the grieving process and preserve the memory of your cherished friend in the manner of you choosing.
