Established in 1936, The Carroll Center (http://carroll.org/), in Newton, Massachusetts, has pioneered innovative methods that enable persons who are blind or have low vision to learn the skills to be independent in their homes, in class settings, and in their work places. We provide vision rehabilitation services, vocational and transition programs, assistive technology training, educational support and recreation opportunities for individuals who are visually impaired of all ages. The Carroll Center staff have provided thousands of blind and vision impaired persons with diverse opportunities for success and independent living.
Geno Carter of the website Geno’s World (www.genogenogeno.com) has started an Ebay auction forum to raise money for The Carrol Center. On why Geno does this, “Why am I raising money for the Carroll Center for the Blind? Easy answer. The best people I’ve ever met walk the hallways at CCB. The employees at CCB include those who lost their vision due to awful tragedies when they were children. It would have been easy to live a life of solitude & complain about their bad luck and awful situation. Instead these real life heroes work in high level positions and can perform at jobs that many sighted folks would fail at. Ever imagine what it’s like to be an administrative assistant to a President of a large organization? Not an easy task. Now imagine doing it if you are blind. The Carroll Center has a person who does the job flawlessly and with a joy that is unmatched… I’ve met sports stars, celebrities, politicians, military heroes and many more great people. Although all great, none match the spirit & courage of the people I’ve met at the Carroll Center for the Blind. There are many fantastic causes out there. Trust me when I say this. There are none like the Carroll Center. This place is special.”
Geno’s efforts have been paying off with donations from celebrities like Alyssa Milano, Jenny McCarthy, Michael Chiklis, Ralph Macchio, and an autographed script of the TV show Covert Affairs which was signed by Chris Gorham who plays blind character Auggie in the show. Geno is always getting in new items signed by some of your favorite celebs and currently you can bid on an autographed picture of singer Josh Groban or an American Pie 3 DVD set signed by all the original cast members and more.
