There are many Clevelanders of Irish descent but you don’t have to have a drop of Irish blood in you to enjoy the 29th annual Cleveland Irish Cultural Festival this weekend (Friday, July 22, Saturday, July 23 and Sunday, July 24) at the Cuyahoga County Fairgrounds in the Cleveland southwest suburb of Berea.
Cleveland Irish Cultural Festival Seeking to preserve, document and pay tribute to Irish culture, history and traditions, the Cleveland Irish Cultural Festival has a multitude of displays, exhibits, activities and musical and dance performances that are sure to delight visitors of all ages.
The festivities include 24 performers, pipe bands and entertainers showcasing their talents on two outdoor and 7 indoor stages. The Festival also features a Native Irish Dog Show (Yes, you can meet and greet and pet the dogs), performances of 4 award-winning Irish plays each day, a Celtic Rock stage, the Tir Na nOg Children’s area and petting zoo, Byrne McCaffrey Workshops, an Irish coffee house and over 50 Irish vendors selling their authentic Irish wares and goods, crafts and food. There will also be an outdoor Mass on Sunday morning.
Performers at the Irish Cultural Festival include Brigid’s Cross, Cherish the Ladies, The New Barleycorn, Dennis Doyle, The Four Courts, The Dublin City Ramblers, The Glengarry Bhoys, Eileen Ivers & Immigrant Soul and many others. Pipe bands performing include the East Side Irish American Club Pipes & Drums, the 87th Pipes and Drums and the Great Lakes Pipes & Drums.
Irish Dancers include Pat Campbell who toured for 8 years with the “Lord of the Dance,” Kevin O’Malley, the Leneghan Academy of Irish Dance, the Masterson School of Irish Dance and the Tessie Burke School of Irish Dance.
There will also be plenty of food available (including traditional Irish fare) for purchase in addition to Irish pub beverages.
Hours for the Cleveland Irish Cultural Festival are 4:30 p.m. – midnight on Friday, 1 p.m. – midnight on Saturday and 1 p.m. – 10:30 p.m. on Sunday. Mass on Sunday is at 11:30 a.m. Admission is $10 for adults. Children under 10 are free. Parking is free.
The Cuyahoga County Fairgrounds is located at 164 Eastland Rd. in Berea. There is also an entrance on Bagley Rd. 440-243-0090.
