Personal preferences being what they are, some “dog people” dislike cats as much as certain “cat people” dislike dogs. But several Sacramento area rescue groups have found that some of the worst cat haters are, well, actually cats themselves.
While most animals can get along well with a little coaching, there are some situations when that is very unlikely to happen. In some cases a female cat may not like other females, but is fine with males. Or a dog may have a personality conflict with one specific animal; just like with people, two animals could simply dislike each other.
Then there are animals that are wonderful and loving companions, as long as they are the only pets in the family.
Take Omar, for instance. He is a handsome cream and caramel-colored feline with gorgeous blue eyes. He used to live on the mean streets, where he had to be tough with other animals in order to survive. Now an inside pet, he still doesn’t like other cats but he absolutely loves people. He is a “Velcro cat”, one that always seems to be stuck to your side. He could be your perfect companion and he is up for adoption from Cats about Town Society.
Or consider Daisy, a gorgeous little cat with silky, silver-blue fur and a loving, cuddly personality. The rescue group LAPCATS has found that while she is not great with other cats, this outgoing 3-year old loves to be held and brushed.
Bella, a sweet Chocolate Lab and Brody, a great Golden Retriever, are up for adoption from two local rescue groups. Either of these loving dogs would be a great “only child” for your household.
HART animal rescue knows that Greta is a pretty, fun kitty with incredible green eyes. She loves people and is a cuddling bundle of entertainment. But boy is she pushy with other cats.
Check out the slide show to see them and several other wonderful animals who need to be the sole pet. If you want to learn more about any of them, click on their name in the alphabetized list below.
