Anyone who grew up watching the original Star Wars movies was understandably in awe of Carrie Fisher’s fantastic body. But unfortunately, over the years since Princess Leia sported that famous gold metal bikini, like the rest of us, Carrie had put on a few pounds. With the help of Jenny Craig, she has lost 50 pounds and may even one day put on that bikini and “just walk around the house like an idiot.”
At her highest, the 5’1” actress weighed 180 pounds, giving her the very unhealthy BMI of 34. She attributes the weight gain to eating “trash” like sodas and pudding. She wore leggings and “the equivalent of a tea cozy” for a top when she went out, which wasn’t often. Fisher says that she felt that she needed to hide in the house because of her weight.
Carrie began the Jenny Craig program in November of 2010 and now weighs a much-more-healthful 129.8 (BMI 24.5 – within the normal range). She says that she would like to lose an additional 8 pounds, but is very happy with her success. She has written blog posts on the Jenny Craig website, calling it the “best weight loss system (on) the planet.”
Jenny Craig is a commercial weight loss program that provides calorie-controlled, pre-portioned meals and snacks that complement your personal eating style. The program also offers one-on-one support with a consultant for the first month to cover important topics in areas such as food, body and mind. As with another popular weight loss program (Weight Watchers), Jenny Craig offers two options – an in-center option and a home option which provides weekly phone consultations.
Recently, the Jenny Craig program was chosen as the best commercial weight loss program by Consumer Reports for Long-Term Effectiveness. The ranking was based on a study that was published in the Journal of the American Medical Association which found that 92% of participants stuck with the program for two years and weighed 8% less at the end of the program (a significant success in terms of weight loss).
Dana Fiser, Global CEO Jenny Craig Inc., commented “We applaud and congratulate Carrie for not only achieving her weight loss goals with Jenny Craig, but also for finding her confidence again! She truly is an inspiration to women and men everywhere, showing them that it is possible to finally gain control of their weight issues with healthy, maintainable lifestyle changes.”
