On the paper it may look like Atlanta Silverbacks stands no chance against the dominating team of the NASL league.
The team from Atlanta played against Carolina Railhawks at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, NC, last Saturday night.
Right from the beginning Railhawks took the initiative when Nick Zimmerman’s shot went wide.
In the eight minute best sniper of NASL, Etienne Barbara, received the ball from Zimmerman and shot right under Quintero’s left arm while fighting off two Silverbacks defenders.
It was Barbara’s 16th goal of the season, giving him the lead by 8 goals.
In 22nd minute the game was stopped due to lightning. It resumed after about 40 minutes.
This time it was Atlanta on the offense, creating multiple goal scoring situations.
Tyler Ruthven, named NASL Defensive Player of the Week a few days ago was showcasing long and precise throw ins, while Ciaran O’Brien was praised for his accurate free and corner kicks.
While Matt Horth, Atlanta’s best goal scorer did not get many chances, Junior Sandoval had quite a few (watch the highlite video)
Before the end of the first half the game was stopped again, due to lightning.
After the game was resumed Carolina Railhawks was more offensive team, creating dangerous goal scoring opportunities.
5 minutes into the second half the game was called due to torrential rain and lighting.
An early goal by Barbara gave Railhakwks their ninth straight win on the home turf.
Atlanta Silverbacks played without Mattias Schnorf, reported to be injured and Jimmy Maurer, replaced by Felipe Quintero.
Schnorf was replaced by Columbian, Cristian Quiñones.
The next game will be played at Atlanta Silverbacks Park against FC Tampa Bay, Saturday Agust 6th at 7:30 PM.
