Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) has been declared unfit for the military service and turned down numerous times. Rejection only makes Rogers more determined to accompany his comrades in battle and doesn’t give up. His persistence captures the attention of Dr. Abraham Erskine (Stanley Tucci). Rogers is then chosen for a secret military experiment that claims to create a “new breed of super-soldier.” Transformed into Captain America, Rogers is almost unbeatable, but will our patriotic hero be able to defeat Red Skull (Hugo Weaving)?
Captain America: The First Avenger has been on the top 5 most anticipated movies for the past 8 weeks. It has been advertised worldwide, its trailer is action packed, appears to have an excellent plot, and the film has remained a hot topic among comic book fans. All the hype might be raising the films expectations a little too high and this could disappoint a couple of fans. Fortunately for you, chances are you won’t be disappointed because Captain America delivers.
So far, looking through other reviews for this film and seeing reactions myself, the public loves it, and critics are 50/50 about it with half recommending it and the other half giving it a big thumbs down. My personal opinion though, Captain America: The First Avenger was great.
Before watching the film, I was not too sure Chris Evans would fill in Captain America’s shoes. With a history of mediocre films such as Fantastic Four and Push, Chris Evans surprisingly did an incredible job in his role of both Steve Rogers and Captain America. We can see and feel for the character Steve Rogers as he struggles being so feeble and we admire how he doesn’t give up a fight and jumps back on his feet. Even after his Captain America transformation, which apparently included a tan, he stays true to himself and does not turn to arrogance, unlike his future fellow avenger, Thor. Which by the way, if you thought Thor was entertaining and witty, you’ll love the humor in Captain America, brought to you mostly by the serious, grumpy yet lovable, Tommy Lee Jones as Colonel Chester Phillips.
Captain America: The First Avenger is everything it promises to be and I can’t wait for The Avengers to assemble.
