We’re delighted that Kenneth Kay will be spearheading this exciting new project.” States Clive Cholerton, Caldwell Theatre Company’s artistic director, “Having a second performance space in the Mizner Park Cultural Center allows the Caldwell to produce intimate theatrical presentations in downtown Boca Raton in addition to our mainstage series in the Count de Hoernle Theatre on North Federal Highway.”
The Black Box Theater is located on the second floor of the former Cartoon Museum in the Mizner Park Cultural Center which is located at the south end of Mizner Park. The initial launch party for Caldwell [email protected] will include a reception that will be followed by a live performance from some of the region’s finest professional theater artists. “This performance,” said Kenneth Kay, Caldwell [email protected]’s artistic coordinator, “will showcase not only some of our best regional talent, but will also provide a glimpse into the kind of plays and musicals we intend to produce in this intimate second performance venue.” “Some of the work will be original material performed by the authors themselves and some will be more recognizable. However, the primary emphasis of Caldwell [email protected] will be on the actors and the wonderful stories they are telling.”
The first season of Caldwell [email protected] will consist of four productions beginning on September 8th with The Guys by Ann Nelson. The Guys, a beautiful and inspiring tribute to the fallen firemen of 9/11, will run for fifteen performances through September 24th. Additional titles and dates will be announced in the coming weeks. “We want to create an identity for Caldwell [email protected] that is separate and unique from the Caldwell’s continuing mainstage operation in the Count de
Hoernle Theatre,” said Kay. “The physical scope of these plays will naturally be smaller, but the ideas and themes presented will be large and universal.. It’s simply great theater in a very intimate setting.”
