Southern California is home to a number of military families; many live on or near large military bases such as the Camp Pendleton Marine Base and Naval Base San Diego. A number of these military families are in need of assistance from Operation Homefront. On August 30, Operation Homefront announced a program to supply free diapers to military families. Huggies has created a camo diaper that will be distributed exclusively in Walmart stores across the nation. Operation Homefront will get one diaper for every box of Huggies sold. In addition, Walmart has joined in the excitement and launched a postcard campaign and Operation Homefront will receive one diaper for every postcard sent during the campaign. The organization predicts that, together with Huggies and Walmart, it will receive up to 500,000 diapers to help military families. The campaign runs now through December 31, 2011 or until the goal of 500,000 free diapers for military families has been reached. Operation Homefront is listed as a Charity Diaper Bank Partner on Huggies Every Little Bottom Website. The camo diapers come in Little Movers (Big Package only), and will be in sizes 3 (16-28 lbs), 4 (22-37 lbs), and 5 (over 27 lbs). All sizes retail for $19.77 per box.
For those not familiar with Operation Homefront, the organization’s mission is to provide emergency financial and other assistance to the families of our service members and wounded warriors. OH provides direct services to alleviate a military family’s or individual’s actual/complete emergency financial burden, as well as counseling and/or recovery support. Emergency financial assistance is in the form of checks paid directly to mortgage lenders, auto mechanics, contractors, hospitals, doctors, dentists and other providers. Other emergency funding assistance, which an applicant receives within 24 to 72 hours, includes the following:
• Financial assistance
• Emergency food
• Emergency home repairs
• Critical baby items: formula, food and diapers
• Home and appliance repair
• Furniture and household items
• Local moving assistance
• Community events
• Wounded Warrior Transitional Family Housing
