TB: Tell us about your company and what role it plays in Buffalo fashion week?
RPM Entertainment Productions is a special event, design, and video production company based in Buffalo, NY. We specialize in large-scale event management and have produced many large Buffalo events including the Buffalo Greater Sports Hall of Fame and Taste of Buffalo.
TB: How did you guys get involved? What is your role?
Fashion Week was something that I wanted to see happen here in Buffalo. I knew that Buffalo could support an event like this so I created it and RPM successfully produced the first annual Fashion Week back in 2009. My role as the founder and coordinator involves so much planning, organizing, & preparation for the big week. I am truly involved in every aspect of this event right down to the small details that people don’t even think twice about.
TB: How does fashion impact you?
Fashion is now such an integral part of my life. It’s not that I wasn’t a fashion conscious person before I started Fashion Week here, but it has truly changed the way I view the industry and the appreciation I have for the art.
TB: Who is fashion week for?
Everyone! In all honesty the week has taken the monumental leap to a designer only showcase. So fashion week is not only for the general public this year and those interested in getting a sneak peek at the spring 2012 trends, but it is for the trendsetters, the buyers, and boutique owners who will launch these trends come next year.
TB: How will Buffalo fashion week change fashion in the queen city? And what are some of the goals?
Hopefully, it will make people here a bit more fashion conscious. I want people to carry themselves with pride and feel good not only about them but about the city they live in. As a result of fashion week here in Buffalo, I would like to see more boutiques and national brands open in the city. I would love to see retail stores return to downtown Buffalo, hence why we hold all of our events in the downtown. People need to see the potential that exists in downtown first and as a result people will respond with enthusiasm and excitement about the future of our Queen city.
TB: This is you 3rd year I’m hearing you guys are adding more venues and reaching out to upcoming designers. What should we expect at this year’s event?
This year fashion week is all about the designers! People asked for it and we made it happen. Designers will be coming from NYC, Chicago and even as far as Hungry to showcase their Spring 2012 collections. Not only did we step it up by introducing an all-designer runway show for the main even at the convention center but also we incorporated 3 more runway shows at other locations in Buffalo, NY. Be prepared to see more vendors, more people, and great fashion! We chose to infuse a bit of an avant-garde theme that you will see at our public photo shoot at Niagara Square and at our runway events.
TB: Where should fashion go in Buffalo?
DOWNTOWN baby! Can’t wait for the day that I can stroll down Main Street and pick up a pair of manolos!
