Bryan & Baxter, paranormal claims investigators and hosts of Warning Radio, gave the audience at Colorado Springs SkeptiCamp 2011 exactly what they came to see, skepticism in action. The duo is famous for their previous SkeptiCamp presentations stealing the show, and they delivered the goods once again.
This year’s presentation was “Shattered Memories”, an investigation of a local organization calling itself P.U.R.E. Paranormal. The first bogus claim brought to light in the discussion was that P.U.R.E. Paranormal are the “official” paranormal team associated with various Colorado Springs area municipalities. The next claim from P.U.R.E. Paranormal that Bryan & Baxter showed as being more than a little stretch of the truth was the claim that they are “teaching at CSU”. The group uses sketchy wording to masquerade with the credibility of the university.
Bryan & Baxter investigated further and found that the group does a “ghoul school” tour at Evergreen Cemetery. The next part of the presentation was the most appalling as the audience learned firsthand how the cemetery was being desecrated with tours where graves are disturbed with people trampling and sitting on graves, stealing from grave sites, setting up ghost hunting equipment in crypts, burning candles in historic protected buildings, public urination (there are no bathrooms on the tour), vandalism, and encouraging further cemetery break-ins by spreading stories about hauntings. They also claimed to be giving all proceeds to The Evergreen Cemetary Benevolent Society when they were not.
Bryan & Baxter, along with the help of some friends, set up a skeptical sting operation gathering evidence of all of P.U.R.E. Paranormal’s wrongdoings by attending one of the ghost tours undercover and filming every bit of the charade. A report of their findings was sent to the manager of the cemetery and to the mayor, resulting in P.U.R.E. Paranormal being banned from the cemetery. The epic debunking that Bryan & Baxter gave P.U.R.E. Paranormal was heroic and priceless.
