Do you need fitness inspiration to keep yourself motivated during the dog days of summer? If you are looking for a fun way to invigorate your fitness routine, or even if you’re just looking for something cool to do on Saturday, head downtown to the third annual Groundbreaker Battle where dance crews battle it out to compete for cash prizes and a chance to perform onstage in the Goodale Theater as part of The Cowles Center’s grand opening weekend Sept. 9-11. According to WCCO.com, “the Cowles Center for Dance and the Performing Arts stages the breaker battle to give local break dancing crews a chance to share their talents with the community.” The event takes place on Saturday from noon to 8 p.m. in the Butler Square parking lot at the corner for Hennepin Avenue and Fifth Street.
After the event, if you find yourself inspired to learn how to break dance, check out classes at Zenon Dance Company and School. The dance center offers classes in classical forms of dance such as ballet and modern dance, but also has a wide range of classes in hip hop, house, and breaking.
