Blink 182 and My Chemical Romance bring the Honda Civic Tour to Wells Fargo Arena (730 3rd Street, Des Moines) Thursday, September 8 at 7 p.m. Tickets for the show start at $30.50 and can be purchased at the Wells Fargo Arena box office and all Dahl’s Tickets outlets. Tickets increase $5 the day of the concert.
Blink 182 has survived band break-ups, a member’s pain-killer addiction, and even Travis Barker’s plane crash to continue to crank out hit albums together. The band comes to Des Moines this time mere weeks before its latest release Neighborhoods hits the stores on September 27. The California pop-punk band has sold in excess of 27 million albums and recorded hits like “Adam Song”, “All the Small Things”, “The Rock Show”, “Stay Together For the Kids”, “First Date”, “What’s My Age Again?”, and “I Miss You”. They have been nominated for 10 awards over their 19-year history, winning 2 MTV Europe Music Awards, an MTV Video Music Award, a Nickelodeon Kid’s Choice Award, and 3 Teen Choice Awards. Check out the first single from their new album “Up All Night” to the left of this article.
New Jersey alt-rockers My Chemical Romance share the bill with Blink 182 on the tour. The band is still touring in support of last year’s Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys. MCR was nominated for a Grammy for 2008’s The Black Parade, and the band has won or been nominated for sixteen other industry awards from MTV, Kerrang!, TRL, and NME since they formed in 2001. My Chemical Romance is best known for the song “Welcome to the Black Parade”, which went #1 in the UK and was a cult success in the U.S.
Synth and drum dance-punk band Matt & Kim are the opening band for the Honda Civic Tour throughout the Midwest leg of the tour. The Des Moines show is the only Midwest show that does not list them, but several news outlets are reporting that they will, indeed, open in Des Moines, as well. Matt & Kim are an odd two-piece combo that formed in Brooklyn in 2005. The duo’s music has been featured in the TV shows Entourage, Chuck, and Community and in 4 video games. The band won MTV’s Breakthrough Video award in 2009 for “Lessons Learned”. The band has released 3 albums. The latest, Sidewalks (November, 2010), hit #30 on the Billboard 100, #6 on the Rock chart, and #5 on the Indie chart. The band’s website has September 8 as an open day on the band’s schedule, so it remains to be seen if they will be at Wells Fargo or not.
