Cedric Benson has decided to serve his sentence for a misdemeanor assault from earlier this summer.
Benson was arrested in July for allegedly assaulting former roommate Clavens Charles. It was the second time Benson has been arrested for assault and his fourth arrest since joining the league in 2005.
He will be serving a 20-day sentence which he planned on serving during the Bengals bye week on Oct. 17. The sentence could be reduced as Benson could get time served from when he was initially arrested.
The Bengals will use Bernard Scott in place of Benson, who had his best game of the preseason against Carolina last week.
Cincinnati will take on Indianapolis on Thursday and expect to have Benson back for the season opener in Cleveland on Sept. 11.
