With summer coming to an end, it’s time to polish off those hefeweizen and apriocot ales you’ve got left in the fridge. and move on to some new styles as cool fall days are on the way.
Here’s two popular styles you may like in the fall:
Marzen/Octoberfest. The classic Octoberfest beer was first brewed in Germany for the 1810 royal wedding. The celebration continues every year late september into October. This beer is lagered for a smooth malty taste that people love! Try a Samuel Adams Octoberfest that will most certainly be on tap at your local bar.
The Pumpkin ale has really taken hold the past few years. Ten years ago there were only a handful of breweries that made this style. Now there are plenty of brewers that pump this one out every fall.
This style can really be sorted into at least two distinct tastes: pumpkin and pumpkin pie. Read up on the beer label as to which flavors you are looking for. Try at least one this year! Punkin Ale from DogFish Head is one of my favorites.
Of course there are plenty other styles of beer to enjoy in the crisp fall weather. smokey porters, dunkelweizen, fresh hopped ale, etc. Please comment on which beers you really enjoy during the fall!
