Bashiri Asad acknowledges that each of us possesses a priceless gift which we must harness, hone, and share with the world. For Bashiri, this blessed gift is his beautiful voice that makes up the lyricism of his Indy-Soul style.
From Temptations type groups, to classical vocal training, (which brought him opportunities to perform both local and abroad), his vocal prowess has grown into the power house of passion any fans of Bashiri’s know and love today. I believe i speak for all of Bashiri’s fans when I say that he sounds even better live than recorded. Normally, it’s the other way around. You hear time and time again of disappointed fans speaking on how horrible an artist sounded live…or that they sounded completely different (to the negative). With Bashiri, one is in store for bliss when attending one of his shows. Not to mention, Bashiri’s music is happy music. Even when he sings the blues, Bashiri’s hugely incredible smile will force you to smile right along with him, no matter what a funk you may possibly be in.
Bashiri’s musical inflluences are:
- Donnie Hathaway
- Stevie Wonder
- Sam Cooke
- and Otis Redding.
All of these influences voices and styles are echoed in Bashiri’s bliss-filled renditions of his balladry. Bashiri and Xenobia Greene (his guitar playing sidekick) have opened for:
- Musiq Soulchild
- Foreign Exchange
- Kindred the Family Soul
- Malik Yusef
- and many others.
Tomorrow night, Bashiri will be performing at the Jazz Kitchen. Fresh from his debut on the Springfield Indie-Soul Musical Festival, Backspin Musiq’s recording artist will be delivering his personalized blend of “indy-soul” music back home. Backed by a beastial ensemble, this show promises to be solild.
DJ Funknatra (VA) will be spinnin’ the best in Indie-Soul and Soul House music for attendees to move to between sets.
Bashiri says that the Jazz kitchen serves the best in American Fusion Cuisine, (such as Italian-American, Mexican-American, etc).
When you go to the venue, answer this question for Bashiri:
“Music is my weapon of choice, what’s yours?”
