Tyler is a friendly, longtime employee that many locals will recognize. Jennifer Prince, a Grand Isle neighbor and photographer has recently joined the market as manager.
Ross originally from, Burlington and Jennifer graduated from South Burlington are equally happy discussing the Back Bay Farm Market selections, as is Tyler, with the neighbors and friends as well as the seasonal tourists. Stop by to put together a picnic lunch for Sand Bar State Park or out on the boat!
Jennifer was happy to share some of her favorite products “We are doing great with our own chickens, Canamak Farms grass fed beef from Grand Isle, and the artisan cheeses. My favorite product in the store is the Doe’s Leap goat kefir. I love it with homemade granola and in smoothies, and we are thrilled to get it personally delivered by Kristin from Doe’s Leap’s mother, Sandy, when she visits friends in the Islands.
It’s definitely a small world! Also, Liz Lowe of the Queen of Tarts has been selling out of really top notch pies and scones, and we hope to talk her into making us quiches and potpies as well. Both the Darby Farm and MR Harvest have amazed us with the quality of some very early produce – tomatoes, peppers, green beans and cucumbers are all in and looking big and ripe.”
Ross shared some of the history of the farm. “It was the largest orchard on the island. Also, Captain John Stark, one of the Green Mountain Boys, was given the land which is now Back Bay Farm.”
From VT Living: South Hero shares an island with Grand Isle on Lake Champlain. Part of the Hero Islands of Lake Champlain, South Hero along with its brother island North Hero was named by Ira and Ethan Allen, “The Two Heroes”. Vermont Governor Thomas Chittenden helped parcel out the Hero islands to the Green Mountain Boys.
