There are a number of short races in Southwest Florida to choose from in August 2011. They represent different communities and different causes.
August 6: Race for Trace 5K– This event is benefits the Florida Diabetes Camp. It starts and finishes at the Publix parking lot at 20321 Summerlin Road, across from Tanger Outlets. (Click here for a map) . The course is straight down John Morris Road to Bunche Beach and back. This race is scheduled to begin at 7:00 am. Click here to register online.
August 6: Run4aReason 5K– The First Alliance Church in Port Charlotte uses the race as a fundraiser to help both local needs and mission trips. The race will start and finish at the church, located at 20444 Midway Blvd in Port Charlotte. (Click here for a map) Check their Facebook page for info about things happening at the race. WAY-FM will be broadcasting from the race. The race is scheduled for a 7:30 am start and the promoters ask that you also bring a canned food donation. Click here to register online.
August 13: Cape 5K– The last in race in the 2011 summer race series that runs the same course each month, allowing you a good way to judge your progress. It begins and ends at Jaycee Park, located at 4125 SE 20thPlace. (Click here for a map) Like the other series races, this one starts at 7:30 am. Click here to register online.
August 20: The Fast Cat 5K Cross Country race– A the name implies, most of this race takes place off the asphalt. The race, which is scheduled for a 7:30 am start, runs around the immediate area of Estero High School, located at 21900 River Ranch Road in Estero. (Click here for a map). August 27: Crab Crawl 5K– This race starts and finishes inside the Charlotte Sports Park, spring training home of the Devil Rays and home to the Charlotte Stone Crabs. Click here for a map. The race is scheduled to begin at 7:30am. This race can be registered for by mail.
August 28: Naples Festival of Miles– This is a new event and the race is only a mile long. There will be 3 start times, Elite women (sub 8 mile) at 7:30 am, Elite men (sub 7 mile) at 7:50 am and the community mile at 8:10 am. At 8:30 am there will be a free kid’s fun run. The race is to be held at the North Collier Regional Park, located at 15000 Livingston Road in Naples. (Click here for a map) This event can be registered for online or by mail.
