Show description: It’s 1985 and rock-star wannabe Robbie Hart is New Jersey’s favorite wedding
singer. He’s the life of the party – until his own fiancée leaves him at the altar. Shot through the
heart, Robbie makes every wedding as disastrous as his own. Enter Julia, a winsome waitress
who wins his affection. Only trouble is Julia is about to be married to a Wall Street shark, and
unless Robbie can pull off the performance of the decade, the girl of his dreams will be gone
*Prepare 16 bars of music and bring you sheet work in the proper key to help to accompanist as
much as possible.
*Prepare 1 joke or funny story (MUST be under 1 minute) humor is unrestricted. You are
encouraged to do it as an impersonation of a famous 80’s icon but not required.
Cast requirements: 10 men and 10 women, 18 to 50s. All ages are approximate, and based on
look not actual age.
ROBBIE HART: B (below middle C) – Bb (above stave) – 20-35, extremely strong singer who
can adapt to many different styles. Strong, focused and diverse actor with a great sense of
comic timing. Ability to play guitar a plus. Basic movement required. Actor should appear
nerdish but with real charm, a likable boy next door approach to the character.
JULIA SULLIVAN: G (below middle C) – D (top of stave) – 20-35, strong singer, Basic
movement required. Strong acting ability. The role is to be played sweet and innocent, she is a
waitress who longs to be married and live the perfect married life.
HOLLY: A (below middle C) – E (top of stave) – 20-35, Must have strong dance ability, and a
strong belty voice. Must be a strong actor. Holly is Julia’s cousin, very uninhibited and forward.
Comic timing a must. Based on Madonna of the 80’s
GEORGE: Middle C – G (top of stave) – 25-30, Strong character singer who can rap and has
good falsetto. Basic movement required. Plays Keyboard. George is openly gay and is to be
played in a slightly feminine manner. Boy George type.
SAMMY: D (above middle C) – Gb (top of stave) – 20-35, Singer who can also play bass guitar.
Basic movement required. Sammy is a typical man of the eighty with and feels he is a lady’s
man. Must be strong actor with comic timing.
GLEN GUGLIA: D (above middle C) – Bb (above stave) – 25-40, Julia’s fiancé, must have great
acting skills with strong singing skills, and strong dance ability. Glenn is tall, good looking,
slightly older in appearance to Julia and Robbie, he is arrogant and wealthy.
ROSIE: Middle C – C (middle of stave) – Robbie’s Grandmother, 50+ we can age up if need be.
Must have great comic timing and a singing voice that suits both classic musical theatre and rap.
Basic movement required. Sweet and lovable, has no shame.
LINDA: A (below middle C) – D (top of stave) – 20-35, Robbie’s Trashy girlfriend who leaves him
at the altar. Strong belt voice with real grunt. Strong dance ability required. Cher type of the
80’s, role is a larger than life personality.
SUPPORTING SPEAKING/SINGING/DANCING CAST
*All these parts are featured roles and cameos. The performer who plays each part will also be
heavily used in the ensemble. Each of these roles is a singing/speaking/dancing role.
TINA TURNA/CLERK Female, belt voice, strong dancer
IMELDA MARCOS/DONATELLA Female Asian appearance preferred but not essential.
CYNDI LAUPER/CRYSTLE Female, late teens/early 20’s. Good comic actor. Strong character
MR T/LOSER GUY/DAVID Male, great character actor, adaptable character voice.
BILLY IDOL/ BAD HAIRCUT GUY Male, strong impersonation of both Billy Idol’s Singing and
speaking as well as mannerisms
ANGIE (Julia’s Mother)/ TIFFANY Female, 35-55, strong character singer/actor, good comic
SHANE/RICKY/DONNY Male 25-40, strong singer, dance ability, strong character actor.
LOSER GUY/PRIEST/BUM *Male 30+, extremely strong character actor, must be able to play
both a 30 yr old and 60yr old. Strong singer, movement is required.
FEATURED DANCING/SPEAKING ENSEMBLE
*These roles are speaking cameos and singing ensemble. These roles will ideally be strong
dancing roles, and the 4 parts will be used heavily for featured dance solos throughout the show.

*We need you to be uninhibited and a little bit crazy- IT’S THE 80’s!!! So have fun, make us
laugh and enjoy the process as much as possible. (Feel free to come dressed in your favorite
*If you are auditioning for a role that requests the use of an instrument (Robbie, Sammy,
George) you are encouraged to bring it, and demonstrate your skills in your solo audition.
Callbacks may require instrumental work, and the equipment will be supplied for the callbacks
*Each of our ensemble members will also have cameos and featured parts that require strength
and diversity. Most of these parts contain solo singing, dialogue, as well as strong dancing. If
you do take an ensemble role, you will have a lot of hard work. If you are able to do any of the
impersonation, please come prepared to do so.
Please be prepared to dance. Bring clothes that you can move in and appropriate footwear
(sneakers, jazz shoes or character shoes). You will be given a chance to change after your vocal

* You will be given a chance to show off any individual skills/abilities you may have in the final 8

open, and newcomers are welcome and encouraged.
