Atlanta best blues bets for the coming week, July 22-28, 2011

by jolt left

It’s time to round up the blues happenings in and around metro Atlanta this coming week! We’ve got blues popping up in some places that don’t show up every week, all around metro, so that is a very good thing! Let’s keep expanding the reach of the blues!

This week’s best bet is the Fundraiser for Jessica Miller at Blind Willie’s on Sunday. Doors open at 2 PM. A donation of $10 gets you a whole lineup of music, including Bill Sheffield, Rod Hamdallah, Rocksploitation, the Nat King Coalminers, Bob Page and Co., Joe McGuinness, The Electromatics and The Stooge Brothers. There will also be a buffet which will include BBQ from Fat Matt’s. Great music for a good cause, how can you go wrong?

The other best bet is the awesome Eddie Tignor’s 85th birthday bash on Saturday at Northside Tavern. I don’t know who will be playing exactly, besides Eddie, but it’s bound to be awesome. (Eddie told me at the ABS Picnic Sunday that his birthday is actually August 11th, and he is having three birthday bashes, one at Blind Willie’s on August 10th and one at his regular gig at Fat Matt’s on the 11th. More details on those gigs coming up in that roundup!)

On Friday, Rob Hamdallah appears at Fat Matt’s. Men in Blues will be at Paddy’s Pub & Eatery, 2196 Cobb Parkway NW in Kennesaw. Norhside Tavern has The Electromatics and “Jon’s BIrthday Bash.”Mike Bourne and Atlanta Boogie stir things up at Old Vinings Inn, 3011 Paces Mill Rd. in Atlanta, while the Truitt Lollis Trio is at Sidelines, 840 Ernest W. Barrett Pkwy in Kennesaw.

Saturday, besides Eddie Tignor’s birthday bash, The Reverbo Rockets are at Fat Matt’s. The awesome Francine Reed joins the Shadows at Blind Willie’s. Men in Blues entertain at Meehan’s Public House, 227 Sandy Springs Place in Atlanta. The Breeze Kings will be at Matlida’s Cottage, 377 S. Main St., Alpharetta. The Truitt Lollis Band returns to Jeffreys Sports Bar at 11585 Jones Bridge Road, Alpharetta. Or take a little road trip to see the Jumpin’ Jukes with Tommy McCoy at Caruso’s (Dahlonega Brewing Co.) in Dahlonega , 19-B East Main St..

Aside from the Fundraiser for Jessica, Sunday also offers Uncle Sugar at Northside Tavern and Fatback Deluxe at Fat Matt’s, as usual.

Monday and Tuesday slow down a bit, but Fatt Matt’s keeps things bluesy with Uncle Sugar ion Monday and JT Speed on Tuesday..

Wednesday, The Electromatics are at Blind Willie’s, Ross Pead is at Fat Matt’s at noon and then Deacon Brandon Reeves performs there in the evening, The Breeze Kings are at Sweet Gerogia’s Blues Joint, 200 Peachtree St. in Atlanta.

Thursday is always a big blues night around town, and next Thursday, the 28th, finds Chicago Bob Nelson at Blind Willie’s, The Women of Rock (Lola Gulley, Caroline Aiken, and Diane Durrett, at Eddie’s Attic, Chickenshack at Fat Matt’s, and The Breeze Kings at Northside Tavern.

Wow! That’s a lot of blues in a lot of places. Have a fun week, ya’ll, and keep bluesin’!
