There has been much debate for years as to whether fragrances are appropriate for children, and opinions are divided. Culturally, we in the West we tend to not even thnk about purchasing or putting perfume on children, while other cultures exist in which infants are regularly anointed with perfumed oils and balsams.
As children, we tend to emulate the actions of our parents or guardians. Young girls are playing with makeup, and boys drag make-believe razors across their face. Scented oils and lotions created for babies are usually alcohol-free, and massage and touch are very important in an infant’s development. Its factual that personal grooming habits are encouraged at a very young age.
My mother can attest that ever since I was a little girl, that I have been in too fragrance and keeping my body fresh and clean. I remember at times admiring my sisters mini size luggage case that was filled with many differnt perfumes, such as Hollywood and my personal all time favorite Paris and just feeling like their was nothing better on Earth then to sit and smell perfume. As i got older I started to get into candles and than had one burning in my room constantly. But all this was never looked on as bad, growing up to fast or a negative action taking place in my life. I feel that children developing good habits of keep themselves clean and wanting to smel good too is a promising way of raising an adult that will take care of themself.
Today fragrnce is definetly directed towards children and also appears in every successful television and movie franchise such as Hello Kitty, X-Men, Pirates of the Carribbean, Hannah Montana, and Harajuku Lovers, they all have their own perfumes. Why? SO THEY CAN GET IN ON THIS FASHION ACTION!
How did you feel about fragrance when you were younger?
