Nestlé Purina PetCare Company is voluntarily recalling a limited number of 3.5 and 7 pound bags of Purina ONE Vibrant Maturity 7+ Dry Cat Food due to possible Salmonella contamination. According to the FDA Recall Firm Press Release, the products involved in the recall were part of a single production run and were distributed to customers located in California, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, North Dakota, Nebraska, Ohio and Wisconsin. The recalled products may have then been distributed to other states.
Only Purina ONE Vibrant Maturity 7+ Dry Cat Food with both the “Best By” date and the production code shown below are included in this recall:

Consumers who have purchased this food should discontinue feeding it to their cats and discard it. People handling dry pet food may become infected with Salmonella so it’s important to thoroughly wash your hands and all surfaces that have come into contact with this product.
The symptoms of Salmonella in humans include nausea, vomiting, abdominal cramps, diarrhea, fever, and headache. Rarely, Salmonella can result in more serious ailments including arterial infections, endocarditis, arthritis, muscle pain, eye irritation, and urinary tract symptoms. People who are experiencing the symptoms of Salmonella infection after having handled the pet food should seek medical attention.
Pets with Salmonella infections may be lethargic and have diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, fever, and vomiting. Some pets will have only decreased appetite, fever and abdominal pain. Infected but otherwise healthy pets can be carriers and infect other animals or humans.
