Yaki Onigiri (Grilled Rice Ball)
You would make this the same way as you would the regular rice balls, except that you would coat your hands with soy sauce before formng the rice balls. Coat a frying pan with sesame oil, then fry up the rice balls, basting them with additional soy sauce until the outside is crusty.
- 1 cup cooked rice
- About 2 oz. thinly sliced beef (e.g. sandwich steak)
- 1 teaspoon soy sauce
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1 clove grated garlic
- Nonstick cooking spray
- Nori to wrap as desired
Pour the soy sauce, sugar and grated garlic over the beef and marinate 15-20 minutes. Heat the frying pan to medium high heat, and add the beef. Cook until browned, then remove from pan.
Make rice ball as normal, putting small depression in the center to put meat in. Wrap with nori as desired.
