The Miss Teen World pageant was held in Houston, Texas August of last year where Miss Teen World-Greece, Anastasia Sidiropoulou was crowned Miss Teen World.
The Philippines was represented in the contest by a intelligent, talented young woman from Marilao, Bulacan named Sabrina Watts.
Sabrina is the daughter of American Navy veteran Johnny Joe Watts Jr. and Filipina Maria Robina Cacayuran.
I wanted my readers to get to know a little about Sabrina so I did an interview with her through email.
Robert Herriman: How did you get started in modeling and pageants? At what age?
Sabrina Watts: I really didn’t imagine myself becoming a Professional MODEL or entering in Beauty Pageants. Basically Modeling all came to me by Chance. But, as I got into the Modeling Industry, I was 16 at the time. I started when I was invited as a guest to watch a Designer’s Collection Fashion Show. During the show, I was approached by a director of Philippines Model Management. It was the best timing, because an upcoming High-End project was soon to be launched which was BENCH UNCUT. (Popular Clothing Brand) Overall I Been Modeling for a over a Year now, Which was the month of March. I personally think in the short span of time that I been working in this Industry, I had achieved so many accomplishments. Compared to the other co- models that have been modeling for years and still haven’t achieved what I have.
RH: Prior to Miss Teen World, what other beauty pageants did you compete in?
SW: I’m not much of a Beauty Pageant type, especially here in the Philippines, with so many political views and corruptions. I mean I was offered to do many Beauty Pageants, and I didn’t try but I’ve always experienced the discrimination and criticism because of the color of my skin, and nationality. And it’s okay, I mean you can’t please everybody and you just need to finish what you started and move on. But other than being in Miss Teen World, which was definitely a huge honor for me because out of all the lovely girls that screened to have that spot (knowing they are all Pure Pinays) , they chose me to be the only representative of our country to compete against other nations. It was a great experience no regardless of winning or not. Recently I had screened for BB (Binibining Pilipinas 2011) unfortunately, I was the Biggest Hot Topic of the year when it came to this Pageant. I rather not talk about it, but you search it all in the net. (She Laughs)
RH: Have you done any modeling for magazines or commercials?
SW: Commercials, not yet. But I am in the process of getting the right commercial for me to work with and of course suits my characther and personality.. I have started in the magazine business where I will be on the November issue of PREVIEW magazine, which is the Top Fashion Magazine here in the Philippines. So watch out for that and please buy the issue (she laughs).
RH: How did you feel about representing the Philippines in the Miss Teen World competition?
SW: To be honest, I was fearless. I was quiet excited to compete against other countries from around the world. And being a representative of the Philippines was such a huge honor for me. Whether win or lose, it was one of the best opportunities I gained for. I have a message for the Youth ” Win Or Lose, always remember in the 1st place you’ve always were a winner because of Trying and Never Giving up. When you start something and you lose hope, put in your heart and mind that you need to finish it because at the end it’s all worth it. BELIEVE”
RH: I understand you recently completed high school. What are your future educational and professional goals?
SW: High school Days, How much I miss those crazy memories! (She Smiles) I am in college taking up BS Tourism and Business Management. I want to focus on my studies and graduate at an early age, which would be when I am 20Yrs Old. And For my Professional Goals, Still continue with this Industry. I am getting into Show Business which is totally new for me but I’ll adjust. I am having virtual plans in opening up my own business. Maybe a Hair Salon Spa and Clothing Line. And I also planned for having my mother be my Business Partner in Opening a Nice Restaurant in the Future. But all in all, these are all plans and yet to be planned carefully and faithfully. “HAHA”
I would like to thank Sabrina for taking the time to share with us.
