Today on July 23, 2011 English singer-songwriter Amy Winehouse was found dead at her London home shortly before 4:00pm local time. Two ambulances were called to Winehouse’s home in Camden, London and the Metropolitan Police confirmed her death at the scene. There is no cause yet to what caused her death, but she has been battling health and substance abuse problems.
Winehouse had a short, yet promising career as a singer-songwriter. She only released two studio albums, with her last being 2006’s Back to Black. That album has gone platinum many times in over 20 countries. It debuted at No. 2 on the U.S. Billboard 200 chart, and went on to sell over two million copies in the United States alone.
At the 50th Annual Grammy Awards ceremony, Winehouse’s album Back to Black won 5 Grammy Awards including, Best Pop Vocal Album, while “Rehab” won Best Female Pop Vocal Performance, Song of the Year and Record of the Year. Her 5th Grammy win of the night was when she took home the prize for Best New Artist.
In 2011 Amy Winehouse was set to make a comeback but her European tour got cut short after a bad performance in Belgrade, Serbia. During the performance she stumbled through lyrics, and her performance.
