It didn’t take long for Amir Khan to respond to the latest comments from Floyd Mayweather Jr. The current king of the junior welterweight division took offense to Floyd’s recent comments and fired back a few shots of his own. However, he also took some verbal jabs at Victor Ortiz in the process. According to a Tuesday August 9th article by Boxingscene.com, Amir Khan made the following comments about Floyd Jr. and Ortiz:
“No disrespect to Victor Ortiz. He’s a great fighter and a very good friend but he’s fought on my undercard twice. I’ll be ready to fight Floyd in two fights time. If he wants to fight this year I would, but Mayweather only talks down on fighters who are threats to him,”

Amir Khan is hoping to secure a fight with Floyd Jr. in the spring of 2012 at Wembley Stadium in the UK. The idea was well received by Golden Boy Promotions and Mayweather initially. However, Floyd recently seemed a bit less enthused about the encounter. In fact, Floyd commented on the potential encounter by simply dismissing it saying Khan don’t really want to fight him and then trying to push his fighter Vargas onto Khan.
If Khan clears out the division, unifies the belts, and goes up to welterweight, then Floyd won’t be able to dismiss him anymore. Khan is on the fast track to superstardom and he already has several solid victories under his belt. In fact, he has a more impressive resume than Victor Ortiz, who is fighting Floyd Mayweather Jr. on September 17th at the MGM Grand Garden in Las Vegas, Nevada live on HBO PPV.

Khan’s path to glory seems destined for an encounter with Floyd. Golden Boy Promotions would love to have the two men fight in London before the Summer Olympics of 2012. If Floyd doesn’t take a fight with Pacquiao or Sergio Martinez, the next big name for him would be Amir Khan and/or Miguel Cotto, provided Cotto soundly defeats Antonio Margarito in December.
Khan just came off an impressive KO of Zab Judah about 2 weeks ago and is looking to fight for the WBC junior welterweight title in December against the winner of Erik Morales and Lucas Matthysse who will fight on the undercard of Floyd vs. Ortiz.
