Recently, in an interview with FearlessRevolution.com, Al Gore said the following: “When racist comments would come up in the course of conversations, “There came a time when people said, ‘Hey man, why do you talk that way? That’s wrong, I don’t go for that, so don’t talk that way around me…[T]hat happened in millions of conversations, and slowly the conversation was won. And we have to win the conversation on climate.” So basically, Al Gore seems to be saying that making a racist statement is the same as saying that global warming is not actually happening. And that is part of the emotional spin the left tries to put on the idea of climate change, just as with many other issues, regardless of how inaccurate it is.
Racism is the mistreatment of people simply because of their color. Global warming is the idea that the earth’s temperature is increasing and our climate is changing, primarily because of human action. Things such as car exhaust, factory emissions, and other things of that nature have been blamed for the problem. Racism was a factual social problem, whereas global warming has very little factual support, a lot of made up evidence, and a decent amount of evidence against it. However, in order to have more control, have stricter laws that restrict freedom, and in some ways, even capitalism, the left has focused on this issue and convinced people that it is a problem that needs to be fixed. Even when the evidence was proven to be falsified in many areas, known as Climategate, the left has just ignored the evidence, and continued on as if it never has even been questioned. As Obama even stated in a speech after Climategate, that whether we want to believe it or not, the evidence points to the fact that global warming is real, many on the left don’t like to look at facts that don’t support their beliefs/goals.
By equating it to racism, Al Gore seems to be hoping that people will believe that disagreement with the idea of global warming is a sign of ignorance. It is a sign of being behind the times, and not understanding what is right and what needs to be protected. It is a common strategy used by the left. That’s why there’s the picture of the polar bear on the little piece of ice that has become a representation of the idea of global warming. People will see a polar bear “stuck” on the ice, and think, “oh no, that poor bear. And it’s all because of global warming. We need to do something.” However, what they don’t tell you is that a polar bear’s scientific name actually translates to “maritime bear.” Polar bears enjoy swimming, and it is part of their natural activity to spend time swimming. It is quite possible that the bear was on that ice for a moment and was about to go back into the water. Another argument is that icebergs and glaciers are melting. However, they seem to forget to mention that icebergs and glaciers in other parts of the world are actually growing.
So in an attempt to explain the “seriousness” of global warming, Al Gore has actually made a mockery of those who fought to stop racism. Civil rights leaders and supporters fought against a real issue, and sacrificed and suffered many times for striving towards what was right. Global warming supporters, on the other hand, are fighting to promote ignorance, and want to convince people of a fake issue that does not have much scientific support. If you don’t believe me, ask the 30,000+ scientists who signed a petition questioning the governments actions to limit the effects of global warming, stating that some of the issues actually are causing more problems than solutions.
