Against the Wall is Liftetime TV’s new scripted series, premiering on Sunday, July 31, 2011, at 10:00 p.m. ET. The new police drama, set in Chicago, is about a female detective who takes a job in Internal affairs, much to the chagrin of her family. Against the Wall stars Rachel A, Treat Williams and Kathy Baker.
Lifetime’s new one-hour drama Against the Wall, stars Rachael Capani (NCIS: Los Angles, The Glades,), Treat Williams (127 Hours, Everwood) and Emmy(R) and Golden Globe(R) Award winner Kathy Baker (Medium, Picket Fences). The drama bears similarities to the TNT htis “Thc Closer” and “Rizzoli & Isles,” in that it features a quirky female lead who is also a crack detective.
“Abby Kowalski” (Rachel Carpani), is a single Chicago police officer who finally scores her dream job as a detective; but i her job is a source of conflic for her close-knit family of Chicago cops. In the first 10 minutes of the premiere, Abby is introduced as a young woman with a new partner and a new dream job that she is afraid to tell her family about, because she knows the family will disapprove. She explains that Iinternal Affairs (IA) offered the only detective opportunity in the entire police force.
Treat Williams and Kathy Baker star as Abby’s parents “Don” and “Sheila.” Portraying Abby’s brothers are Brandon Quinn (Entourage) as “Richie,” Steve Byers (Smallville) as “Steve” and James Thomas (Covert Affairs) as “Donnie.” Marisa Ramirez (Spartacus: Gods of the Arena) stars as Abby’s partner “Lina Flores,” Daniel Kash (The Dresden Files) is her boss “Lieutenant Papadol,” Andrew Walker (Maybe It’s Me) plays Richie’s partner “Brody,” Mayko Nguyen (Lifetime’s Why I Wore Lipstick to My Mastectomy) is Abby’s neighbor “Mackie Phan” and Chris Johnson (The Vampire Diaries) appears as lawyer “Danny Mitchell,” an old friend of Abby’s.
Nancy Miller (Saving Grace, Any Day Now) is executive producer of Against the Wall, from Universal Cable Productions, with writer/creator Annie Brunner (Saving Grace, Huff) serving as supervising producer. Lifetime has ordered 13 hour-long episodes of Against the Wall.
Against the Wall joins the popular genre ofseries about female detectives. TNT’s hit series “The Closer,” starring Kyra Sedgwick, is coming to an end at the conclusion of its seventh season, but a spin-off starring Mary McDonnell will debut in 2012. “Rizzoli and Isles”, starring Angie Harmon and Sasha Alexander, is a TNT hit in its second season. “Covert Affairs”, on USA Network, stars PIper Perabo as a CIA operative. “The Chicago Code,” starring Jennifer Beals, aired on Fox TV for one season, but was not renewed.
