A Lets-Ride.Com is well known for their monthly, by state, listings of motorcycle events and it shows the rest of August, two in particular close to Allen County, that benefits our veterans.
1.) One is A Ride to Remember for this weekend, Saturday, the 20th, at 11:00 a.m. with a $5.00 registration fee for each motorcycle at 10:00 a.m. at VFW Post 5645 at 315 Walnut Street in Findlay.
It ends with food, raffles and a live band with all the proceeds going to the Ohio Veterans Home in Sandusky, Ohio and the VFW National Children’ Home.
Deputy Superintendent, Steve Matune, has this to say about The VA Home, “I would like to take this opportunity to invite you to visit our home. For over 115 years we have provided excellence in healthcare to over 53,000 of our nations heroes. As it was in 1888 the mission of the Ohio Veterans Home continues today, ‘Serving Those Who Served.’”

Findlay is north of Lima about a half-hours ride on I-75.
2.) The second gathering for riders is the 7th Annual Hero’s Ride Benefiting Impact a Hero in Fairfield, Ohio that is sponsored by Pell, Wene Insurance Group, and Jackson Hewitt Tax Services.
It starts with registration from 10:00 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. at 301 Wessel Drive in Fairfield and leaves at 1:00 p.m. with all proceeds benefiting Impact a Hero.
Impact a Hero was created as a “simple mechanism for individuals and corporations to help provide emotional and financial support for our severely wounded/disabled War on Terror veterans and their families.”
They help with the emotional and financial toll our soldiers face upon their return home, including but not limited to, retrofitting homes, Impact a Hero Emergency Financial Aid and mentoring.
It was started in 2005 in Houston and has become an amazing grass roots effort that has spread throughout the United States.

Fairfield is south of Lima, about an hour and a half ride down I-75 until exit 16 and I-275.
Just last month we had the 11th annual Freedom 5k here in Lima and now we can spend the rest of our summer continuing to help our veterans. The weather this weekend is calling for a chance of thunderstorms, but lets keep an eye on that because the weatherman has been wrong before.
And, the one in Findlay is at the VFW on Walnut Street so even if we can’t ride, we can still show up with our hearts, eat some good food, listen to some great music and have a great time helping our soldiers!
Please visit the OSU Wounded Warriors to leave a message of support to those in our military! They have links for local USO centers, programs for assisting our troops and ways we can help our returning soldiers and their families.
