As I travel around Austin, I often see signs stating “Keep Austin Weird”. Now some individuals might think having a dog and cat under one roof is weird. Other individuals may consider having a Pit Bull and cat within the same family to be completely insane. In south Austin one couple share their lives with a dog and cat. Skeemers, who is labeled a ‘Pit Bull’, enjoys playing with his feline family member named Mr. Blue.
Ashley, the mother of these two furry family members, discusses on my radio show ‘A Variety Of Pets’ how they came into her life and much more. You can hear the radio show by clicking here. I traveled to south Austin to meet both Skeemers and Mr. Blue. During my filming session, both pets continuously played with one another. Click here to watch the video of them enjoying life.
Skeemers is older while Mr. Blue is a kitten. When Ashley shared more about their personalities with me I was surprised because they don’t act or look their ages. You might have seen Ashley and Skeemers around Austin or at the Cedar Park Farmer’s Market. Skeemers loves to swim. One dog park they visit is Auditorium Shores located at 920 West Riverside Drive in Austin.
The reason Ashley and Skeemers were at the farmer’s market is because they are volunteers and graduates of the Pit Crew. As stated on Love-A-Bull’s website” The Pit Crew is a group, formed by Love-A-Bull, of volunteers, and their pit bulls, who wish to serve the community through therapy work”. Love-A-Bull is a non profit organization based in Austin.
If you feel living with a dog and cat is weird then Ashley is adhering to Austin’s marketing slogan. Skeemers, a canine, certain is a people pleaser and truly enjoys sharing his life with Mr. Blue, a feline.
