Fresh off the waters of Lake Chabot, Bass Angler Magazine’s own Mark Lassagne shares his Bad Bass tale of the Bad Bass Half Marathon, today. With a line inviting participants to “Run like a Bad Bass at Lake Chabot” BAM’s Editor –in-Chief couldn’t resist attending the 10K/5K event with his wife, Gina. Finding the Bad Bass Marathon online Gina thought it would be fun for the BAM couple to do together and said, “It was something they could check off their bucketlist.”
The pro bass angler and his wife took his spot on the starting line at about 8:30 a.m. saying, “There is a four hour time limit.” Lassagne must’ve thought they had the time to stop and drop a line in the water on the way around the lake because he also said, “The director told us that he would freak out if we brought a bass back across the finish the line.”
Turned out, they left the fishing gear at home and at a little over a half-hour into the Bad Bass race, he sent the update, “Made it half way…tired…sore…keep going.”
They must’ve really picked up the pace at the half-way mark as only 20-minutes passed until the good news came in, “We made it.” Pumped with the excitement of the finish he announced, “At the beginning, I thought I would run ahead of everyone, then I decided I would keep a steady pace; it was a good decision, I wasn’t really that tired at the end.” He continued saying, “Gina did good and could’ve probably beat me to the end; but we stayed together all the way and she gave me encouragement along the way.
An attempt to ask him if he enjoyed “running like a bad bass” or if he would’ve rather been fishing went unanswered at his finish-line interview. Maybe, he just went fishing… after all, he was at Lake Chabot.
Like a true fisherman knows, “it’s only a fish tale when you don’t have a picture” so Lassagne provided several which are available in the slideshow to the left.
