With a 4.8L V8 and 302hp engine the new Sierra 1500 Denali (Texas Edition) offers much when it comes to power, safety and convenience. With Flex Fuel technology the Sierra may be filled with unleaded or 85% ethanol and includes an Active Fuel Management® system. This system automatically uses less cylinders when less power is needed such as during idling. When full power is needed all cylinders automatically activate to provide the needed power
The 1500 provides a highly comfortable ride without the normal jolts and bumps of a regular truck namely in part to its Hydroformed boxed-rail frame. The structure of the frame is closed on the sides and gives additional stability and a smoother ride regardless of road, weather or towing conditions.
The power rack and pinion engineering of the Sierra 1500 causes the steering to be surprisingly nimble and always in complete synch, even during controlled serpentines or in tight steering conditions. The outcome of steering the Sierra on different terrains and under numerous conditions was excellent, especially for a crew cab.
The Texas Edition is an upgraded version when compared with other work trucks however, it is very versatile and equipped with numerous conveniences which make this six-seater crew cab highly usable for both work and play. The 1500 provides remotes keyless entry and vehicle start, power rear window with 12-way fully powered and heated front seats. The front provides 40/20/40 seating and can fit three passengers. The crew cab also fits three with plenty of room to move and even stretch ones legs.
Some 1500 models come with a rear window defogger and their own teperature control system. There are also solar sensor monitors within the cab which assist in keeping the inside air temperature at a consistant level regardless of the trucks external weather conditions. The temperature in the front cabin provides dual controls and may be adjusted on the Driver Information Center and Infotainment console. The console provides navigation GPS, trip odometer, fuel range and average fuel economy, oil life, tire pressure, a compass and all audio functions. One aspect of the Sierra’s audio is the Speed Compensated Volume (SCV) which when activated will self-adjust stereo volume based upon speed, wind and other conditions to help maintain level stereo sound. GMC Sierra’s are available with many optional packages and may be upgraded to add rear seat infotainment system which includes cd and dvd players.
Other included amenities pertain to safety such as rear child security door locks, head and side curtain impact air bags. The StabiliTrak® stability control system automatically adjusts to the drivers steering, acceleration and braking patterns to provide better control and vehicle performance. There are also monitoring systems for tire pressure and automatic headlights which turn on or off depending on the light of day or night. An ultrasonic Rear Vision Camera (RVC) is located on the left half of the rearview mirror while in reverse. But if buyer adds the infotainment package with navagtion the view will display on the consoles touch screen.
Another available offer is an upgraded towing package which includes hauling and transmission range selector modes. This mode provides assistance within the transmission to manually adjust the engine gear during certain towing conditions. It may also be used in conjunction with the Tow/Haul Mode which adjusts the automatic transmission’s shifting depending upon shift pattern, cycling and power needed. The Tow/Haul feature works with Grade Braking and helps keep towing speed consistent while providing additional braking if needed, (such as driving downhill). The optional Low Traction Mode assists acceleration during adverse road and weather conditions. The Sierrra also includes auto-locking rear differential and brake control so the Sierra 1500 may haul up to 6100 lbs. The brake assist also works with ABS to provide additional braking power during emergency situations. The tested model Sierra was a 2wd and the StabiliTrak® traction control helped the Sierra maintain great performance during minor offroad conditions when faced with climbing and descending grassy knolls, algae covered creek beds and gravel.
The standard Sierra 1500 truck bed volume offers 60.7 cubic feet of cargo room while averaging 15 city/21highway mpg with an average of 17 mpg. This GMC Sierra also earned high safety ratings in front, and side crashes and rollovers per the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
