Some children in Richmond, Virginia were asked how they get money to buy those extra things they want whether it is a new CD, video game or piece of electronics.
Most of the answers fell into the following categories.
- Some children get an allowance for doing chores around the house.
- Some children get a job for which they are qualified such as a newspaper route, baby sitting job or mowing lawns.
- Some children have to rely on money they get for their birthdays, Christmas, and from the tooth fairy.
The aforementioned sources mean the children have to wait a long time to accumulate the funds for those extra things they want to buy.
Not so for 12-year old Jaden Smith.
Will Smith and Jada Pinkett-Smith‘s son, Jaden doesn’t have to rely on chores, odd jobs or tooth fairies to help him get money to buy what he wants. His role in The Karate Kid made his a millionaire.
Jaden is already rolling in the dough. The Karate Kid star is a millionaire. According to TMZ, Jaden’s up-front fee for doing the 2010 film was paid in two installments: one for $900,000, the other for $100,000. Because The Karate Kid was a box office smash, he received a $2 million bonus.
TMZ also says that $3 million is the minimum that Jaden made from The Karate Kid, but with other perks in his contract and the film’s financial success, Jaden likely brought home even more money.
The movie made $358 million making it a huge box office success while the original in 1984 made only about $100 million.
Good news for The Karate Kid fans. There is another Karate Kid film coming in 2013 with Jaden Smith and Jackie Chan. This time it will be set in the United States instead of in China.
