Last week on WWE Monday Night Raw, CM Punk returned to the WWE much to the surprise of new “WWE Champion” John Cena. This in turn left fans with two champions and a lot of confusion that was set to be cleared up on Monday, August 1, 2011. Triple H is the new Chief Operating Officer and he’s got a lot of work on his hands as he must sort out this title situation as SummerSlam draws near in two weeks.
1.) Absolutely loved the pop that CM Punk got on his entrance and then him playing to the crowd was brilliant.
Line of the night from the King: “Another mixed reaction.” – As Punk mentions John Cena’s name and maybe 30 kids cheer for him while the rest of the building boos the hell out of him.
15 minutes in and Punk name drops Chris Jericho, Mick Foley, and Brock Lesnar. The back and forth betwen him and Triple H is quite good.
Punk breaking out the Hunter Hearst Helmsley bow was awesome. Great opening promo.
2.) A Divas battle royal because having only two or four of them out there at a time is a huge waste. Not that this won’t be.
Thank God, Beth Phoenix won that match and turned heel. Now, maybe a legitimate women’s wrestler will hold the…title (?).
Winner – Beth Phoenix
3.) John Morrison and Rey Mysterio versus The Miz and R-Truth seems interesting enough, but must EVERY single match have a commercial in the middle of it tonight?
Look at that, Miz pulled R-Truth totally out of the ring and Morrison came as close to hitting the Starship Pain as when his opponent is still laying there.
Winners – The Miz and R-Truth
4.) Really really like the team of Miz and R-Truth. Not necessarily always as a tag-team, but just as “friends” or whatever they are. This is a phenomenal pairing as talen in the ring and on the mic. Please WWE…let this continue.
5.) SummerSlam flashback to Warrior beating Honky Tonk Man in seconds for the Intercontinental Title. That would be frowned upon today. Just sayin’.
6.) Wait, is Alex Riley actually getting his first real big feud? And it’s against Dolph Ziggler for the United States Title as well. Interesting. Oh, SummerSlam is in two weeks and they needed another match, but it could end up being really good.
7.) It really is great seeing Zack Ryder out there, and not just because of CM Punk’s influence. But…to put him out there with Santino Marella is just embarrassing and a travesty. Anyone else notice that Santino isn’t nearly as “fit” as he used to be?
Otunga and McGillicutty win the match, which actually I hoped they would, but never knew their finishing move was the Demolition Decapitation. Trying to bring it back.
Winners and still champs – Otunga and McGillicutty
8.) So Evan Bourne is getting a push of sorts and looking pretty good the past couple weeks and even months since his return. Alberto Del Rio has the MITB briefcase and they are truly trying to main event him and keep him there; that is understood. But was a squash of Bourne really necessary here so as to elevate the Del Rio/Kofi Kingston feud?
9.) Random SmackDown thought since I don’t know watch it every week…has Sheamus turned face??
10.) John Laurinaitis comes out and and tells Trips to strip Cena of the title as that is what Vince McMahon would have wanted. Looks like Vince has his new television goons of this decade, and impressive imitation of Laurinaitis by Cena as a matter of fact.
WWE Champ Vs. WWE Champ at SummerSlam…who didn’t see that coming?
