Even though it is the most practiced religion in America today, Christianity can be a very confusing religion. Even pastors and preachers may find themselves confused at times, and they study the religion on a daily basis. So what is Christianity? Well, this question itself is difficult to answer. But let us start with this: There is a omnipresent and all powerful being known as God. He sent his son Jesus Christ to Earth who performed miracles such as healing the sick and feeding thousands of people with little food. Jesus was later crucified and died for our sins. A “sin” can be defined as something bad, or something that might offend God. Examples might be theft, murder, disobedience, etc. When God gets offended, He gets angry. Not very wise to offend someone all-powerful, right? However, three days after Jesus died, he rose from the dead! While Jesus was on Earth, many people followed him and they were his disciples. Today, many people go to church to learn about who Jesus was and who God is. The Bible has many stories of how God works in the lives of ordinary people as well as important life lessons. Christianity is a religion that seems to “calm people down” and give them hope even when they have little. That is why it is so popular in America. Even in other countries all over the world, missionaries are spreading the word of Jesus and making disciples. Slowly but surely, Christianity is becoming a very big thing.
So Christianity may be defined as a religion dedicated to Jesus and learning about Jesus.
