Beginning Thursday, August 18th at 10:00 PM (ET/PT) the Science Channel will premiere JUNKies. Part American Pickers and part MacGyver, Freeport Junk and Wrecking in Long Island NY will play host to this new show.
According to the Science Channel press release, the show will recognize the subculture of high-end inventors, backyard builders and antique pickers constantly looking for missing parts to complete their passion projects.
Led by Jimmy “The Junk Genius” Ruocco, (the team) will go to any lengths to construct new and inspired devices; with highlights including a hovercraft, a coffin car, a lawn mower racer and a flamethrower-all made from the finest discarded spare parts.Crossing paths with a crazy cast of characters, they encounter everyone from inventors and students to mechanics and artists.
The Science Channel is a division of Discovery Communications, Inc. who own 130-plus worldwide television networks, led by Discovery Channel, TLC, Animal Planet, SCIENCE and Investigation Discovery, as well as U.S. joint venture networks OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network, The Hub and 3net, the first 24-hour 3D network.
The press release describes The Science Channel as “a home for the thought provocateur, the individual who is unafraid to ask the killer questions of “how” and “why not.” The network is a playground for those with audacious intellects and features programming willing to go beyond imagination to explore the unknown”.
Local Michiana residents can view Science Channel’s newest show through DirecTV on channel 284, Dish Network on channel 193, AT&T U-Verse on channel 258 and Comcast will be viewable on channel 110.
