Nevermind the fact that the entire Super Congress committee scheme is boldly unconstitutional. Nevermind that we have lost any shred that was remaining of a representative form of government. As long as the establishment career politicians in Washington are excited about this, we should just throw away the supreme law of our land and be happy with the unveiling of our unelected, secretly picked new Congress.
It has been reported that Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid has already decided on his three picks for the newly created commission. They are expected to be as follows: Senators John Kerry, Max Baucus and Patty Murray. Like it or not, here are your first three members of the new Super Congress.
On the Republican side, it comes with no surprise that Sen. Lamar Alexander is excitedly vying to be tapped for this commission as well. He has consistently shown the people of the conservative State of Tennessee to be no conservative and instead an establishment “yes man.” Unfortunately, we can anticipate the rest of the nine picks to be more of the same.
Congressman Ron Paul and his son Senator Rand Paul have been passionately crying “foul” on the entire illegality and corrupt nature of this newly created entity. In Congressman Paul’s weekly update of Aug. 8, 2011 (see video), he articulates some of the numerous dangers of having this new commission.
Senator David Vitter (R)-LA and co-sponsor Senator Dean Heller (R)-NV have introduced a bill to amend the Federal Election Campaign Act of 1971 in respect to new reporting requirements of campaign contributions to the members of the Joint Select Committee on Deficit Reduction (Super Congress). The full text of this bill S.1498 can be found here. It does not, however, address the fact that this committee is grossly unconstitutional.
If the American people are going to sit back and allow this body to start operating without any legitimate legal foundation, then the sky will be the limit as to what they will inflict upon us in the near future.
Taxation without true representation will be the new motto in every state across this nation. To those that wanted “change,” we all got it!
