Las Cruces, New Mexico – Cody Michael Carmack, 20 was arrested on a warrant today for one count of extreme animal cruelty after a puppy he allegedly slammed against a bed frame had to have his leg amputated to save his life. Carmack remains in Dona Ana County Detention Center in lieu of $5,000 cash bail.
Las Cruces police state that Carmack had an argument with his roommate at the time and became so angry he picked up the roommate’s five-month-old Wirehair terrier, Thor and slammed it against a metal bed frame. The owner of the young dog, a 21-year-old woman stated the dog yelped for over an hour.
A few days later the woman and her dog moved into a new apartment. Her neighbor noticed the young puppy couldn’t walk on his right rear leg. The owner said she didn’t have enough money to take the puppy to the vet, and gave the puppy to the new neighbor who brought the animal to a veterinarian. The puppy’s right rear leg was broken in two places with a broken tibia and a broken fibula. The veterinarian had to amputate the puppy’s leg in order to save his life.
The puppy is expected to be released from the hospital to his new owner.
Congratulations and a big thanks to the new owner for stepping up to save Thor.
