Clevelanders who didn’t get their fill of all the fun and food at last month’s Cuyahoga County Fair can continue their merriment at the Great Geauga County Fair in Burton, Ohio running from Thursday, September 1 through Monday, September 5. It is approximately a 50 minute drive from Cleveland to Burton.
The Great Geauga County Fair Celebrating its 188th year, the Great Geauga County Fair is Ohio’s oldest, continuous county fair and is one of the oldest existing agricultural fairs in the United States. This year’s fair features 13,000 exhibits and over 2000 animals in addition to amusement rides, free live entertainment, games, demonstrations and of course, plenty of food.
Some of the more unusual contests include a Chicken Flying Contest (hosted by TV8’s Dick Goddard on Thursday at noon) and a Rooster Crowing Contest (hosted by WKYC TV 3’s Mark Nolan on Sunday at 4:30 p.m.),
Other activities at the Fair include Demolition Derby ( on Thursday and Saturday), a Band-O-Rama featuring area high school marching bands performing live (on Sunday), Truck Pull, horse racing, a Heel ‘N Time Dog Show, a Firemen’s Water Battle, a horse pull, a Raccoon Hound Race, a Diaper Dash, and a Live Birds of Prey & Friends show. The US FMX Championship Series will take place on Monday at 5:30 p.m.
Additional attractions at the Fair include a hot air balloon, a woodcarving demonstration, an archery demonstration and lots of award winning animals and prize winning produce. and don’t forget the Apple Pie Auction on Apple Pie Day, Saturday, September 3.
There will be a wide variety of entertainment (over 65 performers, acts and shows)including musical groups of different genres, square dancers, a Barbershop group, a polka band and cloggers.
Hours for the Great Geauga County Fair are 9 a.m. – midnight all days. Exhibit Halls are open 10 a.m. – 10 p.m. all days but Monday when the exhibits close at 8 p.m. Amusement rides are open daily from noon – midnight. Admission is $7 per day for adults. Children 12 and under are free. Amusement rides are extra. All-day wristbands (good for most rides from noon- 10 p.m.) are $15 on Thursday and $20 on Friday – Monday. There is also an addition charge for Demolition Derby, TNA Live Wrestling, Truck Pulls and FMX. Parking is free.
