In November 2010, former Rolling Stones bassist Bill Wyman posted a message on his official website saying that he would be answering questions from fans on his website. He said that people could email him directly at email@example.com.
Wyman has now delievered on that promise. On July 10, 2011, Wyman’s website posted a list of quesitons that he answered. Here are some of the highlights:
Fred Norris asked: How are you finding out about music these days, both old and new? Do you use the Internet to stream music from around the world? Are there specific electronic publications or music blogs you read?
Bill says: Answers to both of these is ‘No’ – I find out for myself, or I get tip-offs from friends, and still buy CDs.
Katia Wery asked: What do you enjoy the most, in all of your activities?
Bill says: Photography – which is now becoming an important part of my creativity – with exhibitions in various countries.
Lans Hakan asked: If you had the chance to form the BEST blues band, with yourself on bass of course, ever, then what line up will you have?
Bill says: Earl Palmer (drums), Buddy Guy (lead Guitar), Jimmy Rogers (rhythm guitar), Otis Spann (piano).
Joel Finger asked: I’ve always wondered why you hold the bass in such an “upright” fashion. I can’t think of another bassist that holds their instrument in such a manner?
Bill says: A necessity at the time because of my small hands and small build – before I used short-scale basses.
Brian Harrington asked: To what extent do you wish you could drop the “Rolling Stone” tag and have interviewers focus on your solo work or do you remain proud of you work with the Stones?
Bill says: I am proud of my 30 years in the Stones – and interviewers do focus on my solo work in the UK – it’s more difficult when I do interviews overseas – where they still focused more on the Stones legacy – more’s the pity!
Wyman says that people can continue to email him with questions. It is unknown when the next series of questions and answers will be posted on his website.
