The Enchanted Tiki Room, a venerable Disney World attraction at the Magic Kingdom that underwent a storyline change in 1998, is slated to reopen on August 15 with the old show back in place. The new version featured Disney birds Iago (Aladdin) and Zazu (The Lion King) taking over as “new management.” The original version, which dates back to 1971, is bringing back the original hosts, Audioanimatronic birds named José, Fritz, Michael and Pierre.
The Tiki Room quartet may not seem too excited nowadays, with sophisticated Audioanimatronic figures like Jack Sparrow and President Barack Obama, but back in their day they represented a milestone as the first true Audioanimatronic figures. Their show is now renamed “Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room,” and even though it has the original show, you’ll notice remastered audio and a new, state-of-the-art control system. When it reopens, the show will run at continuous times throughout the day.
