Blueberry season might have started late this year in the Pacific Northwest, but the berries are finally ripe for picking. Blueberry picking is a fantastic family activity if you are looking for something to fill a long summer morning or afternoon.
Try Gile Blueberry Farm in Olympia for some blueberry picking fun. My family has been there twice in the last two weeks and highly recommends it. Children will love it because there is plenty of space to run around, and they can spend forever filling their own buckets with blueberries (the trick is to get them to stop eating the berries faster than they can pick them!). Best of all, Gile Blueberry Farm is pesticide free. You get healthy, non-sprayed blueberries at a steal of a deal! If you pick more than you can eat, try freezing them to enjoy later.
Gile Blueberry Farm is located at 3641 Gull Harbor Road NE, Olympia, WA 98506. For more information call 360-352-4847. They are open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. On the weekends their hours are 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.

Not only are blueberries fun to pick, they are extremely healthy. Blueberries are considered a superfood. Webmd, says the following about blueberries. “Packed with antioxidants and phytoflavinoids, these berries (blueberries) are also high in potassium and vitamin C, making them the top choice of doctors and nutritionists. Not only can they lower your risk of heart disease and cancer, they are also anti-inflammatory.” It is also interesting to note, the darker in color the berries are the more anti-oxidants they will have.
Blueberries are fun to pick, inexpensive and super healthy. What more can a mom ask for?
