When CSI returns to CBS 2 in Queens for its 12th season, the show will be in a new time slot—Wednesdays at 10PM after Criminal Minds—and will have a new male lead in Ted Danson. Will it be able to still bring in the viewers?
A sneak peek was released (watch here) at the Summer TCA Tour from the upcoming season premiere, and it shows Ted Danson in his new role on the CBS procedural drama. The clip begins with George Eads’ Nick trying to get a young kid to talk to him as he first tries to get him talking about the hat and favorite characters. Danson, whose character is D.B. Russell, enters quietly and watches until, as Nick takes pictures, he begins looking for his invisible tennis ball. He does get the kid to respond and even catch the invisible ball, and the clip ends with Russell letting the kid keep the tennis ball (it was on sale at Target) and telling him it’s okay if he doesn’t remember anything, but whatever he can tell them would be helpful. The kid tells them he saw a little alien.
It’s an entertaining clip, and it looks like the show should be able to do well despite Laurence Fishburne’s exit. It’s obvious that Russell knows how to do his job, so that’s not a problem, and he can relate to children, which is proven to be a good thing in this clip. Will he be able to fit in seamlessly with the rest of the CSIs?
CSI returns for its 12th season September 21 at 10PM on CBS 2 in Queens. What do you think of the new sneak peek showing Ted Danson? Will you be tuning in?
