It’s that time of year when our young adults are venturing out to a brand new lifestyle. Thankfully they are taking advantage of a higher education and all the experiences that campus living has to offer. This is a new chapter in their lives, and is one filled with wonder and excitement.
Since our college students will be spending quite a few hours in their dorm rooms, it is important how to best utilize and personalize this living space. We need to provide sleeping, studying, socializing and eating areas in one room.
One way to accomplish this feat is by choosing a loft bed. This is a marvelous piece of furniture designed to utilize as much space as possible, and does a terrific job of providing both sleeping and studying accommodations. The entire space under the bed can nicely fit a desk with drawers and lighting, while the wall under the bed can be used for shelving. You can also use an apartment size refrigerator where the students’ refreshments are right at their fingertips. This is such a smart idea. Now we have the rest of the space to add a wardrobe, mirror and a small seating area. The remaining walls can be used for shelving as well to store linens, books and knick knacks. Most students will bring something from home like family and pet photos and posters. Once the bedding is on and area rugs are in place, the room softens up and takes on a more homey feeling since this will be their home for some time now.
What an exciting time filled with so many opportunites and doors to open! It’s time to let our children grow and prosper, and in a cozy environment they will feel more relaxed, and better able to study.
Good luck to all our college students. Till next time, all things beautiful.
