As of Monday morning, it remains unknown as to the exact details of CM Punk’s status with the WWE. On Sunday night, CM Punk won the WWE championship after defeating John Cena in front of Punk’s hometown of Chicago, Illinois at WWE’s Money In The Bank PPV. The buildup of the PPV was that Punk would be leaving the WWE after the PPV. According to a Sunday report by WrestleZone.com, Vince McMahon only allowed a select few to know the outcome of the PPV main event which included Kevin Dunn, John Cena, CM Punk, the ref and Alberto Del Rio who came out after the match was over. McMahon continues to only allow a select few to know what the current contractual situation is with CM Punk.

At midnight Sunday night, CM Punk posted comments and a photo via his Twitter page of where the WWE championship is being placed for display. In typical Punk fashion, the current WWE champion has placed the belt in his fridge.

After the PPV was over, many of Punk’s peers, friends, and other pro-wrestling superstars took to Twitter and FaceBook to praise the PPV and the Punk vs. Cena match. WWE HOF’er Bret Hart made the following comments via Twitter late Sunday night:
“Very good PPV tonight w/everyone working hard. Great storytelling in the main event & throughout the show. Kudos to everybody”
Not only did the main event come off well, but the entire PPV is being heralded as one of the WWE’s best PPVs in many years. WWE’s Jim Ross echoed these sentiments, via his blog, and even stated that he was going to watch the PPV again:
“The MITB PPV was one of the better WWE PPV events that I can ever recall watching from the proverbial ‘comfort of my own home.’ Sunday night’s MITB PPV delivered big time. I’m watching it again tonight.”
The praise didn’t just remain confined to the WWE fans and employees, current TNA star, and former WWE wrestler, Matt Hardy also had praise for the show as he made the following comments via Twitter: “heard there was a helluva wrestling show on tonight. Very happy to hear the people were given what they want-it’s good for business.”
This entire storyline of CM Punk quitting the WWE, and now John Cena being fired, has definitely been a boon to the business as a whole especially the WWE. Fans have been captivated by the unpredictability of the storyline which is great for wrestling fans and the industry. The suspense of it all is what captures the interest everyone and makes wrestling exciting to watch again.
