The Deseret News in Salt Lake City published a recent story about a sad trend witnessed by school teachers – children show less appreciation than ten years ago in the classroom. The article, The age of entitlement: Selfishness is rampant, but can be corrected, experts say quotes several parenting experts, including Jane Nelsen, the author of Positive Discipline books.
In the article, teacher Jo Greer, who has 20 years of teaching under her belt says about students, “the social development is going backwards” and “the gratitude is vanishing”. Several parenting experts agree with Greer and author and licensed marriage, family and child counselor, Jane Nelsen is one of them. In fact, back in 2000, Nelsen wrote an entire book about the issue of overpampering children. She called it Parents Who Love Too Much.
