‘American Idol’ 2011: Pia Toscano inks record deal for real – single ‘This Time’ — Although she finished in ninth place on Season 10’s competition, American Idol, singer Pia Toscano has just inked a record deal with Interscope Records, the recording company connected with the show. Rumors of a deal surfaced just days after she was dropped from the contest after receiving the lowest number of viewer votes, but this time the deal is for real and has been signed.
The Hollywood Reporter indicates that the debut album will be released later this year and that it will be produced by Rodney Jerkins. The singer’s first single, “This Time,” will be released on July 12. The song is written by Esther Dean, who has worked with Rihanna and Nicki Minaj.
Since Pia Toscano finished in the Top 11 of this season’s competition, she is part of the American Idol Live tour. The tour begins in Utah in a few days and will end with a concert in September in upstate New York.
About signing the recording contract, Ms. Toscano said in a statement that will be released on Wednesday, “This is a dream come true.”
