If you’re visiting Phoenix, AZ for Major League Baseball’s All Star Game and All Star Weekend, you’ll have as many all star cigars shops to pick from as you will All Star players to cheer on.
Here’s a starting nine for you to visit if you’re in town this weekend, or anytime you’re in Phoenix:

Churchill’s is opening up the store for extended hours in celebration of All Star Game weekend. Located just a couple blocks west of Chase Field, the store offers a number of boutique brands of cigars as well as almost all the mainstays of any premium cigar shop. A lounge in the back is open to the public and gives you the chance to relax in air-conditioned comfort while watching TV, reading the newspaper, or just hanging out with your fellow lovers of the leaf. If you’re staying downtown or near the light rail, a visit to Churchill’s is a no-brainer. They also have five other locations throughout the Phoenix area.

Located just a short drive northwest of downtown Phoenix in the area’s Biltmore neighborhood is one of the Valley’s top shops, Ye Olde Pipe & Tobacco Shoppe. Rick Hopkins, a second generation Phoenix tobacconist, owns three stores in the area, with this being his flagship. The humidor is stocked from floor to ceiling with premium cigars to suit any palate and budget. He also has a lounge that’s open to the public, and is located just a few blocks from the historic Arizona Biltmore Hotel and Resort and the Biltmore Fashion Park, which has a number of top shops and restaurants.

Owner Vartan Seferian and his staff have built one of the nicest cigar stores in the entire Valley of the Sun, with an extensive collection of high-end and exclusive cigars, including Davidoff, Fuente, Viaje, Tatuaje and more. You’re almost guaranteed to find something you’ve never seen or you’ve wanted to try when you visit this shop. It’s located about 20 minutes north of downtown Phoenix on Highway 51, on the north side of Paradise Valley and on the west side of Scottsdale.

Hours: Call ahead to make sure the store is open when you’re planning to visit – because of the renovation, hours are varied.
If you love cigars and want to leave Phoenix with a true souvenir of your trip or a gift for the cigar fan back at home, then you want to stop at Habanos Torres. Owner Timothy Torres just moved his shop from Mesa to Scottsdale’s Old Town neighborhood, and even though the store is under renovation, he has a great selection of aged, custom rolled cigars that you won’t find anywhere else. He’s also incredibly knowledgeable about cigars, and loves to talk about his craft. You’re guaranteed to walk out with both great cigars and a wealth of knowledge about how they’re made.

One of the biggest cigar stores in the Phoenix area, Cigar King carries a huge selection of well-known brands as well as their own selection of house blends, made for them by some of the biggest names in the industry. It is also the home of AZFineTime.com, a boutique watch store, and ShavingCreams.com, a men’s skincare store. They recently converted their former warehouse space into a huge cigar lounge, giving you plenty of room to relax and enjoy a free cigar, along with free wi-fi and several big screen televisions.

Home of the first Rocky Patel Cigar Lounge, 21 Degrees Cigar & Accessories has become a regular stop for cigar enthusiasts in the Phoenix area. Owners Pat & Linda Mitchell recently expanded their humidor and are bringing in new lines of cigars on a weekly basis to give their customers even more options. The husband-and-wife team have crafted a top-notch store that just celebrated its third anniversary, and will make you feel right at home regardless of where you’re from.

If you’re in the Scottsdale Airpark area, you should consider a visit to Scottsdale Cigar Club. The place “where everyone’s a member,” SCC recently celebrated their second anniversary with an 800 square foot expansion, adding new seating areas, retail space and more TVs, giving them a total of eight 50” flat screens. The store also has an outdoor putting green so you can work on your golf game while enjoying a premium cigar.

If you find yourself in the north Valley city of Cave Creek, be sure to visit Mojito Cigar Lounge, home of the first and only My Father Cigars lounge in the world. The store just received a new, exclusive cigar – the My Father Cigars Lounge Exclusive, an incredible cigar worth making the drive north to pick up. The store has two lounges – a front lounge for the public, and the My Father Cigar Lounge, which is reserved for members, but you’ll likely be able to get a tour if you ask nicely. Don’t miss this top cigar in the scenic north Valley.

Located just a long fly ball from the Peoria Sports Complex, spring training home of the Seattle Mariners and San Diego Padres, Shades of Havana is the area’s premier boutique cigar retailer. While owner Eric Parkinson could just stock his shelves with the cigar store standards, he made a choice to focus on supporting smaller, boutique manufacturers, and has built up a large following of West Valley cigar enthusiasts who appreciate his ability to pick true top-notch cigars, while also being a tremendous resource of cigar information. The store just celebrated its sixth anniversary.
And since the game will be played with a designated hitter this year, here’s a 10th place to visit:

If you’re looking for some casino action in between cigars, then the Shadows Lounge at Talking Stick Resort is a must-visit. This living-room like lounge offers spacious seating options and a well-appointed bar, offering numerous beverage pairings for your cigar. The lounge stocks a small selection of premium handmade sticks at reasonable prices, but you’re more than welcome to bring your own. The resort is also home to a golf course, spa and several restaurants, and is just across the freeway from the new Salt River Fields at Talking Stick baseball complex, spring training home of the Arizona Diamondbacks and Colorado Rockies. If you haven’t had a chance to check out the premier facility in all of spring training, it’s worth stopping by to see this gorgeous new baseball complex.
