DFW’s high temperature peaked at 97 degrees on Thursday, August 11, ending 2011’s string of 100-degree-days at 40.
This leaves 2011 in 2nd place for the longest such streak at DFW, two days behind the all-time record of 42 days set in 1980.
However, 2011 is running ahead of 1980 overall, and may wind up as the hottest summer on record for daily average temperature.
As for the total number of 100-degree days this year, there have been 47 days through August 11 which is 22 short of tying 1980 for the all-time record.
Based on the extended outlook through August, that record will be severely challenged.
